This is a very bad trade for several reasons. One, no one wants Kwame Brown. Two, the Nets obviously get the short end of the stick seeing how they now have 3 more useless players that should be in the D league. More importantly, I always say that teams with GOOD players like Shawn Marion don't trade them to teams in the same conference let alone the same division.
The celtics maybe this year. The lakers will have a hard time getting past the spurs, suns or mavericks. But I have to admit it would be fun to see another finals of the lakers and celtics. Those eighties finals were classics.

Besides Kobe, I don't see any other good defenders on the Lakers squad. In Ron Artest, you have a lockdown defender who brings toughness and scoring.

It's possible. Remember, it's a 7 seed vs the 3 seed, in actuality, if you look at regular season records.

Also, the Lakers match up fairly well with the Suns. The Lakers have good perimiter defenders in Sasha, Kobe, and Smoosh, and the Suns rely heavily on the 3-ball. Also, Kwame is starting to improve, and no Sun can match up with him physically, down low, if he comes anywhere near his potential. Plus Phil Jackson has brought a decent team defense to LA, and the Lakers are young enough to keep up with the Sun's frenetic pace.

I actually don't think it would be much of an upset if the Lakers beat the Suns, but either way, neither team will win the West and go to the Finals.

I say Shaq and Jerry Buss. Shaq needed to step down and let Kobe be the undisputed leader of the team just like Kareem did when Magic joined the Lakers back in the day. Jerry Buss also had to make a decision between Shaq and Kobe. He ultimately made the right choice in Kobe.

Shaq is old and out of shape. If he would have worked half as hard in the 2004 season with Lakers as he did in the first season with the Heat, the Lakers would have won the championship that year. Look at Shaq today, he is going to be out 4-6 weeks due to surgery. Buss made the right choice by sticking with the young Kobe over the out of shape, aging Shaq.

The trade for shaq may not be as bad as people think. As a player I'd say yes Marion is a much better fit but look back to the 80's when the showtime lakers had jabbar. Those teams was built for the run much like the suns are, but who got that fast break started more than anyone else? The old slow jabbar. It could work the same here with the suns. I'm surrprised the "true lakers fans" cant see the compaison between the suns now and one of the most famous era's in laker basketball. When that trade first went down I said the suns were morons, and that they could have got more for marion, but if ya look deeper at what the trade can do for the suns it actually doesnt look as bad. Though I would say the heat got the better end of the deal, and next yr wade and marion and haslem will be tougher to beat than what the heat have been this yr.

The mavs didn't lose a lot of depth. stackhouse will resign with them they upgraded thier pg spot. Though be it they now dont have as bright of a future at the pg spot as they did and nj more than likely wont resign George or diop after the season so both could come back to the mavs next yr. If this trade goes thru it will make the mavs very hard to beat. If Kidd can get triple dbls with nj what do you think he can do with Dallas with dirk, Howard and terry to pass to.

I think the lakers are the team that is trying to keep up. The others are just trying to improve their teams to win now instead of building for the future. But I'll agree that the lakers are gonna be tougher to beat thats for sure.
Phoenix made a paniced yet understandable move to keep up with the Lakers. Shaq is a proven player in this league who can win championships. Since he won't be the only go to guy in Phoenix, the chances of him playing great again are heightened. Just remember that Shaq is an All Star big man surrounded other All Star players. This deal has the potential to work out for Phoenix.

I don't know what Dallas is thinking. Yes you need a good point guard. But that will not help them against the Lakers. If Kidd went to the Spurs that could be a problem. 5 players 2 1st round draft picks and 3 million in cash for 2 players. That is not logical. You can't even win now with that. You need to be able to dominate the boards a defensively if you want to stand a chance against the Lakers.

The Sun gave up the most versatile defensive player and replaced him with an over the hill big man. Yes they need a big man, but is he the answer and for how long. He will drain their salary cap like he has done everywhere else.

I think the Suns getting O'Neil was a great move as long as they utilize him correctly. The great thing is they can play with or without him. Having him on your team gives the suns a defensive presence in the post they never had before. He wont slow the team down. After all no NBA team usual has all 5 players running on a fast break. He'll thrive playing pick and roll with Steve Nash.

1) Luke Walton can't start or play a lot of minutes. Lebron will abuse him if they match up. Odom or Kobe have to defend Lebron.

2) Odom has to play better, particularly on the boards.

3) Turiaf has to start or at least play 30+ minutes.

4) Kwame should stick to rebounding and defending.

No. This was hands down the 2 biggest games of the season, and they basically beat down on both New Orleans, and the Spurs.(Hornets did make a run and try to win, but it was never gonna happen).

Well several teams can beat them. Look at golden state and the mavericks last year. Certian teams just match up well. I'll agree the lakers are the most talented team in the league. They have incredible depth. However they are young, id bet on them over anyone else. Several teams COULD beat them. Celtics, Suns, Spurs, Hornets, Pistons. I never dreamed the pistons would have won in 04'. The best team doesn't always win. I couldn't believe the Heat made it a few years back.

I love the lakers roster. Kobe is the best in the league when hes heating up. Bynum and Gasol are both very good, and chris mihm is a fantastic backup if healthy (don't forget he used to start) Odom has been playing fantastic. Radmon, Sasha, fisher, farmar, walton. Everyone can hit 3's. The main thing is no one person has to play amazing. The lakers can play anyway, run and gun, team ball, give it to kobe, post up. Double teamings hard now becuase everyone else can play. Kobes an impossible 1 on 1, gasols better than most centers, bynums above average, Lamars hard to play stright up. I even say Turiaf hitting jumpers consistantly today against the spurs!

Lakers are my favorites, but nothing in sports in gauranteed. Who woulda thought the Giants would have won the superbowl!

Gasol fits perfectly to me in the Lakers. Phil Jackson now has a power forward/center to play in his triangle offense.

Gasol can pass dunk rebound and shoot the midrange game.

The Lakers have so much depth also in their bench.

Contenders for sure. They now can matchup with everyone in the west. Tim Duncan, Dirk, and Stoudamire have caused a lot of problems for the Lakers and now they have someone to matchup with them. An all-star level power forward is rare and the Lakers got him for virtually nothing. This makes a good team great and depending on how well they get along, I can see them doing great things.
I can't believe we got rid of the other Gasol and I bet Memphis wouldn't even wanted him.

Try getting either Kevin Garnett (my personal choice), or Jermaine O'Neal (garnett's shooting skills is more better than Jermaine's and he is versatile, too!).

Trade Odom, Bynum, Radmanovic (we need no skaters in basketball!! lol), maybe even a pick for either on of them.

GEt a decent point guard, Luther Head, or Mo Williams (he's underrated), or Steve Blake, if they can't get Kidd.

i think the Lakers at this point have to do what is best for the Lakers. They really haven't done anything positive since the Shaq trade and i think trading Kobe would be a very negative thing to the fans. More than that, right now they can't get equal value for him. They shouldn't deal with the Suns (same division, etc.) and Chicago has also said they won't gut the team for him- so that only leaves the Knicks who are even worse than the Lakers.

Being that they have Kobe for two more years- they can try to make some deals to improve them. If Kobe refuses to play (threatens to sit-out) if i'm Laker management i threaten to let him sit out for two years-- he'll end up hurting himself more in the long run.

The bottom line is that you've to get as close to equal value for Kobe. If he sits two years and then he walks- he'll have devalued himself so much- and you'll have a ton of money to spend on another free agent- plus you would have probably landed in the lottery twice- which will make it possible to land another big name free agent.

If Kobe plays out the two years- you do what you can to improve the team. Obviously if they could land KG everything is solved- but i think the idea that just because he wants out- doesn't mean the Lakers should get rid of him and end up being the stomping ground of the NBA.

No they should'nt. Kobe is the best player in the NBA period. And he does alot for the Lakers, like taking them single handedly into the playoffs and putting them in the record books. All he asks in return is for the LA management to bring in a good player so that his prime years arent wasted.

Think about it, if you knew that you could win championships if you had a few good guys around you but you know in the next five years you might not be able to, than you want to get as many rings as possible now. and if that means stepping on a few toes to get the rings than you do it. Even MJ had Pippen. LA need to get there game together and get a decent player, Kobe sees that so he pushes them to or he will go to a team that can get him some more rings.

Lakers needs to do a better job on Tim Duncan, I don't think Gasol can single cover him, but at the same time don't expect Kobe to score 2pts in the first half either. I think someone has to help out when duncan is driving in the lane, maybe go for the stripe or something.

When you play the Celtics, any mishaps of forcing your shots and playing bad defense...it's pretty much suicide for the opposing team.

The Lakers have just beaten Heat and they have won 10 in a row and also they were 11-1 scince the Gasol Trade(should've been 12- 0 if it wasn;t for that 3 point loss in ATlanta). Imagine how good the Lakers are going to be when Bynum and Trevor Ariza come back. They have been just straight out blowing out teams in the past 10 or 12 games. The Suns haven't had a downfall. They're not playing as well as the Lakers, but that's to be expected. Shaq's a harder piece to work in than Pau Gasol. Remember, everyone was talking about how great the Mavs were last year and they lost to the Warriors. As impressive as that ten game win streak is for the Lakers, it'd be a lot more impressive (and helpful) if it was in the playoffs.

Remember, the Suns eliminated the Lakers from the playoffs a few years running now. Enjoy it after the Lakers have knocked 'em out of contention.

Honestly? Neither team. I am not hoping for anyone. They're both tough teams. Boston Celtics is a dangerous team despite having a hard time and being exposed in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have the experience like the Spurs. They have a younger, deeper and better bench than the defending champs. But as an Lakers and NBA Fan, I would love to see the Lakers VS Celtics in the finale for a fairy-tale Finals match-up. 1- Detroit: By pride!!! That's a rematch for 2004, and every Lakers fans would be waiting for that Finals.

Well unless something horrible happens Lakers got this game in the bag and although I didn't see this game from what i saw in the game against the suns they looked real good. Lets hope they keep up and injuries don't plague us like last year

We'll right now I'm watching the NBA sports-package and they have the lead115-105 against the Jazz. But I'm not convinced that this team is legit yet. But then again Utah is pretty good

The lakers would be good as soon as they get rid of batty boy/chi chi man kobe bryant. I always feel that they should trade him to the mavericks for a great package such as jason terry, devin harris, and josh howard and a first year team to have a very young talented team. Imagine Lamar Odom as your leader, Bynum developing more offensively, Howard as your great 2nd or 3th scorer, and great depth at guards devin harris, jason terry, and derek fisher.
So far so good.
Ive been a laker fan for a long time so i know better then to get too hipped up, obviously its too early, every team out there is still trying to get there rhythm. they look good but you have to keep in mind that both there wins have come off teams playing back-to-back games. lets hope they keep this up though even with good well rested teams.
the lakers played very good basketball in the 4th quarter but they weren't consistent all game

At best, Bynum would be back up for Gasol. Other than that, it's too late in the season to really make him an integral part of what they've already got, which is not too shabby. Still, Bynum would provide more than just relief for Gasol. He would be able to contribute much, though not 100%. Report It


the scenario is going to be like this. if the Lakers reached the West Finals and down 0-2 against possibly the Spurs, they will play Bynum. And still if they lose to the Spurs, the Lakers will say its too late for Bynum.

Another scenario for the Lakers. if the Lakers will reach the West Finals and lead 2-0 against possibly the Spurs, Bynum will not play. But he will play in the championship if they advance.

Hopefully, only the Lakers fans will answer this questions. ho haters plsssss
Its a great loss put they have played most of the year without him and I still expect them to go to the finals .......jazz would be a greater challenge because of deron/boozer but the rockets have the 1 player in the league with the same skill set as kobe so both teams would give the lakers fits but wont win the series.......con-finals im taking the lakers as long as they keep sharing the ball and pau/odom keep steping up.
I say keep Bynum out unless he is absolutely 100%. He's only 20 with a bright future playing for the Lakers. Don't do anything stupid that might cost Bynum his career and the Lakers a big piece of their future. They are playing so well without him right now. No sense in rushing him back. Even if they fail to win the championship this year, next year they'll be the team to beat with a healthy squad.
It's a little bit disappointing to not be able to see us at full strength- but hopefully Ariza can come back and give us a boost defensively- and we still got a pretty good squad-- just got to play the games and see how far we can go. 4 down, 12 to go!

I guess that having Bynum in the playoffs would be good for L.A, but it's not necessary... The Gasol trade was the right move to be in that positions...
