Since I like the Lakers much more than the Cavs and they are a highly skilled team I would normally pick them, but with Andrew Bynum out I have to go with the Cavs.
Lakers, even though a lot has to line up for that to happen.

1) Luke Walton can't start or play a lot of minutes. Lebron will abuse him if they match up. Odom or Kobe have to defend Lebron.

2) Odom has to play better, particularly on the boards.

3) Turiaf has to start or at least play 30+ minutes.

4) Kwame should stick to rebounding and defending.

No, It's not because I'm not man enough, It's because I'm a realist.

I do not think that the Lakers will be a LOCK for beating the Celtics w/out Bynum. I just don't think that we'll be able to beat them without a big presence in the paint.

I do however KNOW that the Lakers can beat everyone in the West in a series w/out Bynum, and that's a LOCK.

That's why I put up that guarantee with the follow up question to back it up. It was to settle things as official, instead of dealing w/ ppl posting things like "Lakers WILL FALL to the Nuggets" or "The Spurs are Going to win a Back to Back this year" or "Rockets will own Everybody"

For a few reasons.

1) I was at the game in December when the Lakers blew the F*cking **** out of the Jazz scoring 75 F*cking pts in the first half. Ya, thats right. The Jazz gave up 75 in the first half.

2) The LAKERS beat the Spazz on their home court. Where (as I'm sure you know) they had only lost 3 all season and 19 straight home wins until the Lakers showed up. Not only did they beat them on their home court, they did that WITHOUT Gasol, WITHOUT Bynum, and WITHOUT Ariza. How do you expect them to beat the Lakers when they can't even beat them AT HOME WITHOUT GASOL AND WITHOUT ARIZA??????

Right now, nobody. Its funny that they turn their defense on and off, and they should realize that defense wins championships so they'll play defense in the playoffs.

No. This was hands down the 2 biggest games of the season, and they basically beat down on both New Orleans, and the Spurs.(Hornets did make a run and try to win, but it was never gonna happen).
first team to score over 100 against the spurs in 4games. talk about that defense!! they shut san antonio DOWN. lakers are for real people, with or without bynum, we goin to the conf finals.

Well several teams can beat them. Look at golden state and the mavericks last year. Certian teams just match up well. I'll agree the lakers are the most talented team in the league. They have incredible depth. However they are young, id bet on them over anyone else. Several teams COULD beat them. Celtics, Suns, Spurs, Hornets, Pistons. I never dreamed the pistons would have won in 04'. The best team doesn't always win. I couldn't believe the Heat made it a few years back.

I love the lakers roster. Kobe is the best in the league when hes heating up. Bynum and Gasol are both very good, and chris mihm is a fantastic backup if healthy (don't forget he used to start) Odom has been playing fantastic. Radmon, Sasha, fisher, farmar, walton. Everyone can hit 3's. The main thing is no one person has to play amazing. The lakers can play anyway, run and gun, team ball, give it to kobe, post up. Double teamings hard now becuase everyone else can play. Kobes an impossible 1 on 1, gasols better than most centers, bynums above average, Lamars hard to play stright up. I even say Turiaf hitting jumpers consistantly today against the spurs!

Lakers are my favorites, but nothing in sports in gauranteed. Who woulda thought the Giants would have won the superbowl!
There playing there best basketball when it's needed the most. Thats what champions do.

They probably won't play well in Game 5. In fact, the Lakers might steal the game, because I have a feeling the Celts want to win the trophy at their homecourt.

Western Conference Teams like Dallas, Suns, etc will have a hard time getting passed them. I mean Dallas and all the veteran teams already had trouble with Bynum but now with Gasol the other Western teams should be in fear.

Gasol fits perfectly to me in the Lakers. Phil Jackson now has a power forward/center to play in his triangle offense.

Gasol can pass dunk rebound and shoot the midrange game.

The Lakers have so much depth also in their bench.

Farmar and Vujacic off the bench.

Turiaf and Radmanovic will take over because they could both shoot..

I mean comon the Lakers are 3rd in scoring this season and Kobe finally passes the ball.

Sooner or later Kobe will get their and I think this is the year and if isn't then im putting all my money on them next year winning the NBA CHampionships if their key players are healthy

Contenders for sure. They now can matchup with everyone in the west. Tim Duncan, Dirk, and Stoudamire have caused a lot of problems for the Lakers and now they have someone to matchup with them. An all-star level power forward is rare and the Lakers got him for virtually nothing. This makes a good team great and depending on how well they get along, I can see them doing great things.
I can't believe we got rid of the other Gasol and I bet Memphis wouldn't even wanted him.

I'm thinking that Duncan is loving these teams beefing up their front line for a run at him. The Warriors with achy-creaky Chris Webber, Lakers with injury prone Pau Gasol and now the Suns with an over the hill Shaquille O'Neal.
