It's possible. Remember, it's a 7 seed vs the 3 seed, in actuality, if you look at regular season records.

Also, the Lakers match up fairly well with the Suns. The Lakers have good perimiter defenders in Sasha, Kobe, and Smoosh, and the Suns rely heavily on the 3-ball. Also, Kwame is starting to improve, and no Sun can match up with him physically, down low, if he comes anywhere near his potential. Plus Phil Jackson has brought a decent team defense to LA, and the Lakers are young enough to keep up with the Sun's frenetic pace.

I actually don't think it would be much of an upset if the Lakers beat the Suns, but either way, neither team will win the West and go to the Finals.

now, as for who broke up the dream team, it was the egos of kobe, shaq, and phil. yup, phil. we all know about kobe and shaq. kobe wanted to be the man, or at least be recognized as the man. shaq wanted kobe to be what wade is. a yes man who plays great, saves him, but continually praise him in the media. shaq loves getting praised by guys in the media. that is why he loves wade and mourning.

as for phil, he handled the situation poorly. he had a bad relationship with kobe in the beginning by using kobe as a whipping boy. he made it clear in the beginning he wanted kobe to be a sidekick, kobe didn't buy it and didn't want to,

the whole situation got worse after the colorado incident. shaq said kobe should go to him more because he was injuried, kobe took offense. he felt that a)shaq had no right to tell him how to play b)shaq had no right ot say it was his team because he was fat, out of shape, and demanding a huge contract., c)shaq shouldn't have brought it in the media.

situations got out of hand after that.

another reason was jerry west. lakers needed someone to have both shaq and kobe's trust. shaq was feuding with kobe, kobe was feuding with shaq. both phil took shaq's side and buss took kobe's. there wasn't anyone that both respected and could have smooted the situation. kupchak couldn't do that. if west were still in LA during the feud, then perhaps the lakers do not get broken up.

I say Shaq and Jerry Buss. Shaq needed to step down and let Kobe be the undisputed leader of the team just like Kareem did when Magic joined the Lakers back in the day. Jerry Buss also had to make a decision between Shaq and Kobe. He ultimately made the right choice in Kobe.

Shaq is old and out of shape. If he would have worked half as hard in the 2004 season with Lakers as he did in the first season with the Heat, the Lakers would have won the championship that year. Look at Shaq today, he is going to be out 4-6 weeks due to surgery. Buss made the right choice by sticking with the young Kobe over the out of shape, aging Shaq.

dallas is questionable. first i dont think dallas is an old team. second, i dont think kidd really makes them all that much better and they sacrificed a lot of their future to get a 35 year old pg. it made dallas thin up front and a depleted bench.

The trade for shaq may not be as bad as people think. As a player I'd say yes Marion is a much better fit but look back to the 80's when the showtime lakers had jabbar. Those teams was built for the run much like the suns are, but who got that fast break started more than anyone else? The old slow jabbar. It could work the same here with the suns. I'm surrprised the "true lakers fans" cant see the compaison between the suns now and one of the most famous era's in laker basketball. When that trade first went down I said the suns were morons, and that they could have got more for marion, but if ya look deeper at what the trade can do for the suns it actually doesnt look as bad. Though I would say the heat got the better end of the deal, and next yr wade and marion and haslem will be tougher to beat than what the heat have been this yr.

The mavs didn't lose a lot of depth. stackhouse will resign with them they upgraded thier pg spot. Though be it they now dont have as bright of a future at the pg spot as they did and nj more than likely wont resign George or diop after the season so both could come back to the mavs next yr. If this trade goes thru it will make the mavs very hard to beat. If Kidd can get triple dbls with nj what do you think he can do with Dallas with dirk, Howard and terry to pass to.

I think the lakers are the team that is trying to keep up. The others are just trying to improve their teams to win now instead of building for the future. But I'll agree that the lakers are gonna be tougher to beat thats for sure.
Phoenix made a paniced yet understandable move to keep up with the Lakers. Shaq is a proven player in this league who can win championships. Since he won't be the only go to guy in Phoenix, the chances of him playing great again are heightened. Just remember that Shaq is an All Star big man surrounded other All Star players. This deal has the potential to work out for Phoenix.

I don't know what Dallas is thinking. Yes you need a good point guard. But that will not help them against the Lakers. If Kidd went to the Spurs that could be a problem. 5 players 2 1st round draft picks and 3 million in cash for 2 players. That is not logical. You can't even win now with that. You need to be able to dominate the boards a defensively if you want to stand a chance against the Lakers.

The Sun gave up the most versatile defensive player and replaced him with an over the hill big man. Yes they need a big man, but is he the answer and for how long. He will drain their salary cap like he has done everywhere else.

In 2010, Kobe will still be a great all-around players, Bynum will be a beast, and Gasol will be in his prime. While the rest of the conference(maybe Portland) be all old and shitty.
I think the Suns getting O'Neil was a great move as long as they utilize him correctly. The great thing is they can play with or without him. Having him on your team gives the suns a defensive presence in the post they never had before. He wont slow the team down. After all no NBA team usual has all 5 players running on a fast break. He'll thrive playing pick and roll with Steve Nash.

Since I like the Lakers much more than the Cavs and they are a highly skilled team I would normally pick them, but with Andrew Bynum out I have to go with the Cavs.
Lakers, even though a lot has to line up for that to happen.

1) Luke Walton can't start or play a lot of minutes. Lebron will abuse him if they match up. Odom or Kobe have to defend Lebron.

2) Odom has to play better, particularly on the boards.

3) Turiaf has to start or at least play 30+ minutes.

4) Kwame should stick to rebounding and defending.
